EDUCATION

Our home is not dually registered as a school.

It is recognised that continuity within a young person’s education is important and wherever possible young people are supported to attend their existing school or college. If for some reason a young person of school-age cannot attend, or is not on the school roll, we will liaise with the young person’s Social Worker and the Education Department to secure a place at school or other education provision. Great emphasis is placed on finding the young person a school place as quickly as possible. If a school place cannot be found, the Home will work alongside the Local Authority’s Education Officers to ensure that an educational support package is available either in the Home or elsewhere until a place can be found.

Our staff are committed to ensuring all children and young people regularly attend school and develop their skills and interests to reach their full potential. We liaise with schools and parents/carers to support educational needs and ensure consistency of approach when helping children work towards positive outcomes. We support children and young people’s individual education plan and offer suitable facilities for them to complete homework. Staff take an active interest in the child’s school work by checking homework diaries and attending parent meetings and school events.

To support the Active Offer, where gaps in language competences of the staff have been identified, we plan to close those gaps by offering training to staff to enhance their Welsh language skills and competences, in order that children can be assisted to complete their homework in Welsh.
